2K QHD Video Quality with WDR and Super Night Vision

As the upgraded version of the A129 Series, the A229 is equipped with a 5.14MP Sony STARVIS IMX335 image sensor to deliver stunning 2K QHD video capture of the road ahead.

The A229 rear camera is also fitted with the 5.14MP Sony STARVIS image sensor, making it a 2K QHD rear camera - the highest resolution in the VIOFO lineup to date.

Larger Screen for Improved Performance

Unlike the conventional 2-inch Viofo screen, the A229 Duo dash camera uses a larger 2.4 inch HD display which delivers a bigger viewing screen and improved performance in heat dissipation and better durability.

In addition to" REC", "MIC", "Wi-Fi", two new LED indicators, "PWR" and "GPS", have been added on the front panel to help drivers easily catch the status of the cam and the functions enabled.

Clean Installation with 2.8mm Slim Coaxial Cable

Using 2.8mm super slim coaxial rear cable and miniature connectors, the VIOFO A229 offers a more user-friendly, discreet installation, especially for new users.

The upgraded coaxial cable also provides better electromagnetic interference reduction than traditional cable types.

Keeps Watch When You're Away

The VIOFO A229 offers three advanced parking to help you capture full evidence during parking.

  1. Auto Event Detection:
    Automatically record for 45s when detecting moving objects or impacts during parking. Optimized with buffered function, its 45s-video recording starts 15 seconds before and ends 30 seconds after the defected event.
  2. Time Lapse Recording:
    Record a video at low frames at 1/2/3/5/10 fps and compress into a long file.
  3. Low Bitrate Recording:
    Record videos continuously at low bitrate 4MB/s with audio recorded.
    Tips: To use parking modes of A229 Duo, the VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit cable is required, whose ACC function will automatically switch A229 Duo dashcam into parking mode or normal recording.

Built-in Dual Band 5GHz & 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

Dual-band WiFi provides the most convenient way to control and check on recorded footage via the VIOFO mobile app, including setup, live view, playback and download/share recorded files.

Static (Windshield) Stickers

Designed for rental, carshare and fleet vehicles, the static sticker is a transparent film that adheres to the windshield using static electricity, offering a budget-friendly alternative for a suction mount. When using the static sticker, it also acts as a barrier between the 3M sticky tape and the glass thus avoiding sticky residual and marks should you need to uninstall the dash cam.

VIOFO CPL Filter

The VIOFO A229 does not come with CPL filter inside the box. You will need to purchase it separately via the VIOFO CPL FIlter (A229/T130/A139) listing.

NOTE: The VIOFO A229 is NOT compatible with the VIOFO CPL FIlter (A118/A119/A129).

Great dash cam - one gripe...

Product works great. The only issue I have with it is that watching replays of dash cam videos is nearly impossible when connected to the dash cam via wi-fi. Buffers for minutes...video starts for a few seconds...then buffers again for minutes... Quite frustrating.

Just know that you will likely need to take out the SD card and hook it up to your computer in order to get a good replay video.

Other than that, quality is great.

Great cam, maybe should come with a better SD card

Very happy with the dashcam so far. There's been one issue, where for one day, the recording kept randomly stopping while driving and I had to keep pressing the record button to restart it. Support said it was either a power supply issue or a memory card issue. It stopped happening after that day, so I'm not exactly sure what caused it, but my guess is that the Sandisk Ultra SD card that came with it is not a good enough card for a dashcam.

Also, it would be nice if there was a way for recordings (probably just locked recordings) to download to your phone automatically through wifi.

Otherwise, it seems very high quality and works reliably. I have the hardwire kit hooked up and parking mode works well, too.

Another great Viofo cam

Had a 129 Pro duo that I left in a vehicle I just sold and put this A229 in my new truck. So, there was no learning curve and I got the install done pretty easily. However... I used a 3rd party adapter/power supply that plugs into an existing socket in the overhead for a factory dashcam and that did not work out great for the Viofo. Turns out that when the vehicle does an auto stop and then restart at traffic lights the dashcam would reboot. Apparently, power is cut to that circuit when the starter engages and that is enough to drop the cam offline and cause a reboot. Another however... if you turn the cam's GPS off this problem does not occur. But then you lose speed overlay and route history.

The bottom line is that you really need to use the Viofo hardwire kit if you want this to work reliably... unless and until someone makes an adapter than can buffer these power transients. And the hardwire kit really is easy to install.
